GeoKone.NET 0.98.02 Released – Now Supports Mouse/Touch Input!

GeoKone.NET - Shattering Geometry!

GeoKone.NET – Shattering Geometry!

Mouse input! Yes, finally GeoKone.NET supports mouse/touch input for the following adjustments:

  •  Move Formation
  •  Scale Formation
  •  Rotate Formation
GeoKone NET 0.98.02 - The Action Toolbar For Selecting Mouse Adjust Mode For Primary Button

GeoKone NET 0.98.02 – The Action Toolbar On The Left For Selecting Mouse Adjust Mode For Primary Button

The new Input Adjust Toolbar can be used to Select The Action that the First Mouse Button is bound to adjust. The second mouse button always moves the formation. This allows you to move the formation around, while easily rotating and scaling the formation also.

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts 1, 2 and 3 to select the active toolbar action.

This is a Game Changer :) As Moving/Rotating/Scaling the formations with the mouse allows much more natural expression than before was possible. This also enables almost animation like scaling and rotation effects to be found while exploring geometry that creates interference at different rotation and radius points.

Mouse Input Testing

Mouse Input Allows Much More Natural Placement .. Who would have thought about that? :)

Contains also bunch of bug fixes and usability improvements, thanks for people who have reported any bugs or feature requests! :) Check out full ChangeLog for more details.

Geokone In Action

Here’s a video of GeoKone in actual usage. I explain the basics of what GeoKone is all about and do some demonstration art with it.

GeoKone is an Interactive Sacred Geometry Generator that runs in your browser. With GeoKone you can easily create recursive geometry that is based on natural constants like the Golden Ratio.

GeoKone 0.96 Beta Released! Create Sacred Geometry Live!

GeoKone.NET has been Updated To Version 0.96.03 Beta.

What is GeoKone ?

GeoKone is an Interactive Sacred Geometry Generator that runs in your browser. With GeoKone you can Generate, Copy, Modify  different Recursive Geometrical Formations that are based on Natural Constants like the Golden Ratio. All parameters of the geometry are assignable by the user. You can save your creations either as PNG Images or Export as JSON/Text Parameter Data, suitable to be Imported into GeoKone and edited later. GeoKone uses Processing.JS.

Visit http://GeoKone.NET to check it out Live In Your Browser! Visit also the GeoKone Gallery to see Unique Art made possible by GeoKone.

This update brings Improved Usability, More Stability and New Features:

Undo: Last 3 Steps Are Undoable.

  • Keyboard shortcut: ‘v’
  • Very basic functionality for now, still need to tweak and optimize

Copy Formation along vertex points of currently selected Formation:

  • Keyboard shortcut ‘.’ (dot)
  • This allows you to copy the currently selected Polyform and place it along the outer points of the current polyform, allowing much easier copying of formations and creation of totally new formations.

Exporting & Importing Scenes as JSON/Text

  • Copy & Paste the current Scene as Textual Data. This allows you to save your scenes locally to your computer and Import later to continue editing.
  • Importing & Exporting currently works by you Copying and Pasting the scene text into/from GeoKone.
  • Expect more improvements on this in upcoming versions. In the future it will be possible to Integrate these GeoKone scenes into other programs, through a small library that will draw GeoKone scenes with OpenGL! :) This could bring a whole new world of possibilities.

Improved Usability

  • Copying, Joggling and moving Formations around works now better and is more accurate.
  • Performance might be a bit slower though, but I will continue optimizing the code and release more often.

More Stylished Looks

  • More polished look for the parameter page (although the new Safari has some issues drawing this, seems to affect Mac Os X Lion version only)

Shortcut Buttons

  • Shortcut buttons for most used features, currently: Randomize, Save Image, Export Scene

Keyboard Shortcut Map

  • Help/Keyboard Shortcuts:  See more easily what different keyboard buttons do!

Note: Login, Saving & Loading Scenes to the server is still disabled, as the combination of Python+Django+mod_wsgi+Apache seems to be a bit challenging setup to push live. I am seriously considering rewriting the whole server side with Node.JS, but this will take some time. Hopefully I will get the current server implementation working in the upcoming days.

And as with previous releases, GeoKone is still in Beta, so everything doesn’t always work as expected.

Also, I decided to postpone the Chakana HyperController feature into an OpenGL version of GeoKone, as it’s usability is not yet up to the standards I want and Javascript/HTML5 performance is still an issue, not really possible to run 30 FPS without OpenGL.

Happy Geometry Forming with GeoKone!

11.11.11

I’ve heard rumours that having a Facebook page is a good thing. So, if you like GeoKone (I’m a bit early here, wait until 11.11.11 for the public beta, but if you like the idea) or the images you see here, please check out our Facebook page.

Press Like and I will post Sacred Geometry into your news feed, bringing good energies to you :)

Actually Here are a couple of samples of what kind of stuff has come out of my engine during the development:

Visual Illusion

Nice Visual Illusion happening here, brain puts together the missing lines between the spheres

Rolling Swastika

Rolling Swastika - Interesting finding, many similar symbols in one geometric shape, the David's Star, The Swastika, The Staring Eye Inside The Pyramid

3DPyramidBeing

The Sierpinski Pyramids - With Some Soul Included. Pure Computer Generated Images are usually boring, as there is no intelligent creator involved beyond the logics of the programming. With GeoKone, there is both. The Artist can express himself through technical accuracy, but with the touches only an living being can add.

Binary Code

This was an interesting discovery, I accidentally set the number of fixed child points to 1.5, and I discovered binary fractal patterns can be drawn with setting the number of points to 3 to form a triangle and then set child recursion, creating these triangle rows of lines .. hmm I wonder if one could program the IChing TriGrams with this system .. Adding it to the TODO list :D

Copying is Easy

It is now easy to copy all the selected polyforms, allowing more complex scenes to be created more easily.

Fractal Binary Tower, click for full size

Fractal Binary Tower, click for full size. This looks almost Chinese in some way. Those cloud looking things are Binary Fractals.

Copy Test 1

These are just a small sampling of the different styles that can be already achieved. I have some crazy stuff also made from these, but I will have to wait until 11.11.11 to maybe show some samples of it, as we are using this stuff in our TAWA ceremony also, and it is kinda sacred until shown to the public.

Oh yeah, I tried playing around more with those binary shapes, here is a couple of screenshots of the actual UI too as it is now:

Testing out the Binary Patterns

Building A Scenery - Just for fun :) The Fractal Line pattern is very interesting indeed. Compressed, the parameters needed for this scene take about 9 kilobytes, uncompressed about 150 kilobytes as the data is saved polyform by polyform, saving each parameter value for each.
