GeoKone 0.99.66 released ::Set Background Image & Continous Tracing

GeoKone.NET was just updated to version 0.99.66.

Background Image Setting

This version (actually previous version already) brings support for drawing over a background image, like demonstrated here:

Remixing Geometry over a image from www.luminaya.com

Using a gradient as the background

Using a gradient as the background

Saving the background image is not yet supported, but you can always load it again after loading the scene from a local file. The background image setting is smart, so you can import any size file as the background and GeoKone will automatically scale it to fit the best target, and you can select  how to fit the image to to your scene.

When exporting PNG images with background, the background images original resolution will be preserved, so you can set a high resolution image as background and then draw over it, and get same quality output if exporting a higher resolution PNG image.

One cool thing to try out also is exporting your current scene as PNG, then setting that image as your background and continuing drawing over it :)

Continous Tracing Mode

When the ‘tracing’ mode is set, toggling the animation will not clear the trace buffer anymore. This means you can pause the animation, modify your formations and resume animation to continue tracing over your previously traced buffer.

This enables to create this kind of beautiful images more easily:

This was created by tracing the original formation, pausing animation, re-scaling, continuing animation and repeating this pattern

GeoKone.NET Updated :: Now With Rainbow Fractals, watch out Unicorns!

GeoKone.NET has just evolved into a very fine tuned rainbow fractal machine, Unicorns and Nyan Cats watch out! Color hue animation support will bring out so much new exciting possibilities, especially when combined with the tracing option.  Warning: may cause epilepsy or flashbacks of the 70s! ;)

Automatic hue animation!

Much UI polish, renaming of formations to layers, more keyboard shortcuts. Overall, just slowly cooked polish (no offend to people of Poland) everywhere! Oh yeah, everything is now saved and loaded from the Cloud, those old servers were so boring, the new clouds are much better! (cough).

Another example. Imagine what you can do with this!

Point Radius Ratio setting removed, breakage of old scenes with points

Unfortunately something old must go in order to make room for new, so I removed the Point Radius Ratio parameter to simplify things, now you only set the Point Radius directly. The behaviour of this also changed, now the point sizes are directly related to the Child Radius Ratio setting, so you can create images like this:

Rorschach like patterns with new point radius behaviour

Also, big thank you again anybody who has donated! I will make a list of GeoKone.NET supporters. Your money has gone towards paying the servers and purchasing some nice music from http://bandcamp.com, so you are indirectly supporting other indie artists too!

Children using GeoKone and Transparent Film Paper to create Beautiful Art

Was so happy to see this that I had to share this link here also. Amy Zschaber from http://www.artfulartsyamy.com/, an art teacher teaching in Georgia, shared one of her classes she had taught on the subject of Islamic Art & Architecture (which is heavily based on natural, sacred geometries).

Specifically, she introduced the children to GeoKone, and each student made some designs they liked, then they printed it out and colored by hand on transparent film paper used in old projectors.

The results are beautiful! Sharing couple of images here that the children made:

This saved my day (or night to be exact). One of my goals in life is to share this knowledge with children, and to open up the creativity in kids, so this really warms up my heart and motivates me to continue working on this subject.

Check out her post here for more images and the way she taught this to her students:

Big thanks for Amy for posting this online!

Generating Modern Art with GeoKone.NET

Here are a couple of images I created today with GeoKone.NET, just to showcase some of the new features coming up in the next version. Here you can prominently see the Hue Rotation feature, which allows you to animate the hue of colors automatically. This creates some very nice, very modern art style looking images, while changing parameters same time as the animation and tracing is running (Click for full resolution versions):

Do you know any other software that can create this kind of artistic results ? I dont think there are many others like this, if you do,  please leave a comment! I would love to in the future to integrate geokone as an artistic brush into some more advanced image editing tools .. but that is something that is coming in the future maybe!

Now go to http://GeoKone.NET and start Creating Art Yourself, Now! This hue animation feature is not yet live, but is coming in the next version! And remember, always have fun, whatever you are doing!

GeoKone.NET updated with PDF Support

http://GeoKone.NET has been updated! Now with support for Downloading PDF versions of your scene!

GeoKone.NET Blasting Geometry :: Now With PDF Export Support!

GeoKone.NET Blasting Geometry :: Now With PDF Export Support!

Actually it has been over a month already from the release, been pretty hectic with getting http://Geometrify.net up to speed, will write about that more in a separate post later.

Release Notes

  • PDF Downloading, download Scalable Vector Graphics versions of your scenes, in PDF format. Requires for you to register an user, scene to be saved on our server and purchased PDF downloads. You can purchase PDF downloads with Paypal currently, considering adding Bitcoin support in the upcoming releases.
  • Nudge Sliders, New UI elements for adjusting poly parameters with mouse, nudge sliders. These enable much more precise control of parameter values with the mouse too. Slide left and right to add or decrease to current value increasingly.
  • Hide User Interface, The option ‘Scene/Hide User Interface’ will hide all the user interface elements from the screen. Combine this with fullscreen to get fullscreen canvas for now.
  • User Interface Improvements, Show current active formation and number of formations on the scene, added Golden Ratio scene size presets and now the currently modified parameter value is shown in the bottom right corner.

For full list of changes, see the ChangeLog.

PDF Exporting

This is one of the most requested features since the beginning of GeoKone, and finally it is here. Now you can export your scenes to Adobe Illustrator, Sketch or other vector based programs and continue editing your scene there. This means you can now easily make print quality versions of your scenes, for example for t-shirts, art and other physical objects you might want to decorate with GeoKone art.

The previous version of the downloaded PDF will always be stored on the server, so you can re-download already exported scenes without having to purchase more. This is a paid feature, because running the servers cost money and for now I have paid it from my own pockets. All PDF purchases and donations help support keeping GeoKone running! ^_^

Here are a couple of examples of PDF files exported with GeoKone (click on image to open PDF version)

This was our entry to Assembly Summer 2013, a big computer user & demoscene  gathering held here in Finland every year, in the Short Film Compo.

It is a symbolic story about how new information is being downloaded here on our Planet .. Represented in Sacred Geometry created with http://GeoKone.NET, edited and transformed with Final Cut Pro X. Music by Hystereo Psychovsky, all graphics & editing by Yours Truly.

Enjoy! Watch in HD, Fullscreen & with some good speakers or headphones! ^_^
